Paul has been involved in coaching for many years at various levels of minor hockey including Clubhouse, AA, AAA Bantam and AAA Midget Hockey. He is currently entering his 21st season of coaching and his 11th season at the AAA Provincial Midget Level. Ten of the past eleven seasons have been with the Winnipeg Wild. Paul has helped guide the Wild to four first place league finishes, three Provincial Championships as well as two silver medal finishes at the Western Midget Regional Championships.
In 1994 Paul received his Coach Level through the Hockey Manitoba Certification Program. In 1997 he obtained his Intermediate Coaching Level and in 1999 he successfully completed his Advanced (HP 1) Coaching certification. Paul also has been certified in Level III Theory and Safety Awareness. In addition to this Paul has held various volunteer positions with Hockey Manitoba in the areas of coaching development and has been a committee member and both co-chair and chair of the Advanced Level Certification Program with Hockey Manitoba.
Paul has also contributed many years to the Program of Excellence (POE) through Hockey Manitoba. His involvement in the program includes player evaluation, event planning, coordination of the selection process as well as coaching assignments. In 2007 Paul was the Head Coach of Team Manitoba\'s Male Hockey team that won a silver medal at the Canada Games in Whitehorse, YK. Two years later he went on to be the Head Coach of Team West\'s Male Hockey Team that finished 4th in the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Port Alberni, B.C.
As a coach in the Winnipeg Minor Hockey System Paul has twice been recognized as the Winnipeg AAA Coach of the Year (2007 and 2009). He was also selected Sport Manitoba\'s Coach of the month in February of 2009 and was nominated in the same year for the Jack Hunt Memorial Coaching Award for Athlete Development. In 2011 he was selected as the Wellington West Capital Outstanding Coach of the Mac\'s Midget Tournament in Calgary, AB.
Paul\'s philosophies on the game of hockey include the importance of player skill development, player\'s understanding of the game as well as a commitment to ensuring the advancement of players to subsequent higher levels of hockey beyond the AAA Midget level.
